Over the years, add another approx. 2,000 persons for commercial star party events.

Here is a list of past complimentary star parties & projects, who for, and who participated.  If any notice their names are missing from an event, please advise as my memory isn't what it used to be.  wf

Aug. 2013 - NAD @ Colter Bay again, good crowds, about 250 total.  Volunteers for this year: Mel, Liz, Vic Wagner, Sue Hall & son Matt, Kay & Walt

Aug. 2012 - National Astronomy Day at Colter Bay, mostly a bust this year due to clouds/smoke.  Participating: Mel, Liz, Ann, Chuck, Sue, Matt, Walt.  Also Jack Hogan & Mike S.  100+ visitors.
July 2012 - Mike Maurer & Bob Cummings hosted an astronomy kids orientation event for the end of the Summer Reading program at the Teton Co. Library, 30 attending.  Also assisting were Ann Dahl & Kay Farmer.
July 2012 - Star party for the community of Thayne, WY.  140 miles for 9 people at Sweet Lips Pizza.  Walt & LaVor Jenkins.
July 2012 - Walt hosted 9 musicians from the GTMF & friends, at his home.
June, 2012 - Mike Maurer at the Broken Arrow Ranch w/12 students & 5 adults.
June, 2012 - Mike Maurer. & Derek Niederer, hosted 30 students/teachers from Hinsdale HS in IL at Colter Bay.
June, 2012 - ToV (Transit of Venus) at Willow Flats in GTNP.  On hand with scopes were Walt, Ann, Mel & Liz, Mike Silverman, & new members, Cole & Todd Stockstill, along with Bob & Ben Hoyle for the Park.  It was overcast, windy & cold.  We had rain, hail, & a crowd of tourists & locals.  Consensus was that we visited w/approx. 250 people today & while conditions were anything but good, we managed breaks to see the transit on a number of occasions.

May, 2012 - Annular (partial) solar eclipse in GTNP at Willow Flats turnout.  Bob manned the park's 10", Mel had his 8" w/Walt's solar filter, Walt had the club's 8" w/solar filter, Kay manned Walt's binocular projection display, Mike Silverman had Ed's old binocular projection display, club friend Don Cushman passed around all of Walt's arc-welder filters, Loretta & Liz came out in support, while another club friend from So. Cal. (Stan) was appreciative & brought water & soft drinks for the gang.  We were there for 2.5 hrs. & while many people stayed most of that time (note party atmosphere), many were tourists that came & went.  I'll put the number at about 400 as most estimated at least 3-500.  With daytime events, we have some photos.  Click on the images for a link to an enlargement.

April, 2012 - Walt & Lee presented a new Powerpoint program about the club to the local Kiwanis - 6 attended.
December, 2011 - Derek Niederer assists at the Journeys School for a nightttime observing/iPad event w/120 students in the classes of Bari Bucholz & Ethan Lobdell..
October, 2011 - Star party for Ethan Lobdell's science class from the Teton Science School at the Wilson Elem. school, 4 attending, & conducted by Walt.
August 2011 - City kids at the Spotted Horse Ranch.  Observing session for 15 kids & 3 adults, conducted by Ann & Chuck & Charles Santos.
August, 2011- Star party for "City Kids in the Wilderness," conducted by Mike Maurer.  30 students attending.
July 2011 - National Astronomy Day event at Colter Bay in GTNP where we visited w/about 200 persons in the afternoon, although the clouds ruined observing on the bay that evening.  Participating for the club: Lee Cutler, Walt, Mel, Elizabeth, Loretta Scott, John Farmer, Bob Hoyle.
June 2011 - Event for school at Red Top Meadows for 12 students & 3 teachers.  No observing, but used programs from the Night Sky Project to introduce students to astronomy.  Ann Dahl.
August 2010 - NAD event in GTNP reaching about 450 people during the afternoon & evening at Colter Bay.  Attending: Mel, Walt, Arlo, Vic, Lee, Elizabeth, Bob Hoyle, & perhaps one or two others, as I didn't log this in shortly after the event.
August 2009 - Walt worked w/park staffer to update airport light readings w/club's SQM after midnight on the 19th.  At least it wasn't as cold as the first time.
August 2009 - Coop w/GTNP at Colter Bay for the annual observance of National Astronomy Day.  Participating in the afternoon on the deck were Mel, Mike S., Walt, Charles, Lee, and Bob, w/about 150 visitors looking at the sun through the cloudy skies.  Joining us for the evening presentation were Arlo & Derek, Ellis and Ann, with about 250 more guests looking through the 6 telescopes at a surprisingly nice evening sky.
July 2009 - Coop w/GTNP at the Gros Ventre Campground.  Bob Hoyle gave his stellar program at the amphitheatre & we did an abbreviated observing session that was rudely interrupted by a thunderstorm about 45 min. in.  Attending for
     the club were Walt, Ellis Richard, Arlo and Derek Niederer, Charles Santos, Ann Dahl, Lee Cutler and Mel.  About 120 visitors attended the two portions w/6 scopes & a 2 pair of astrobinocs.
June 2009 - Teton Village & Summer Solstice & Father's Day Celebration - Summer Solstice talk given by Derek & Arlo Niederer.  Weather issues, talk only given to about 5 people.
June 2009 - Coop with Grand Teton Nat'l Park at Signal Mtn. campground & star party at Potholes turnout.  Walt Farmer, Bob Hoyle, Mel Tucker, Arlo Niederer, Lee Cutler, Charles Santos, & Dan Haworth were planning to attend.
     Event was cancelled due to rainy weather.
Feb. 2009 - Public IYA event w/the Center of Wonder at the Center for the Arts.  Participating members: Loretta Scott, Ed Henze, Michaela Stockhouse, Lee Cutler, Walt Farmer, w/about 60 attendees.
Jan. 2009 - Public IYA event w/the Center of Wonder at the Center for the Arts.  Ellis Richard, Ed Henze & Loretta Scott represented the J(H)AC, with about 120 attendees.
August 2008 - Public star party at Owen-Bircher Park in Wilson, WY.  About 10 visitors w/numerous club members participating.  Big rainstorm too!
August 2008 - National Astronomy Day event in GTNP: Bob Hoyle, Walt Farmer, Mel Tucker, Ed Henze, Ann & Chuck Dahl, Arlo/Dalia/Derek Niederer, Dave & Helen Bishop, Linda Dudyniak.  Interacted with over 400 visitors & tourists.
July 2008 - Order of the Arrow Scouting conclave: Mike Maurer, Walt Farmer, Ann & Chuck Dahl, Ellis Richard.  Event cancelled at last minute.
July 2008 - Public star party at JH Rec Center.  Numerous club members.  30 attending.
April 2008 - Solar presentation to Frank Symington's & another teacher's class at Summit High School by Walt Farmer and Arlo Niederer.  Mike Maurer
    was scheduled to help but timing didn't work out.  No solar observing due to weather & lack of sunspots anyway.
Jan. 2008 - Walt initiated lighting survey w/our SQMs, with the airport & took readings on a cold dark night.  Readings posted on club website.
August 2007 - National Astronomy Day at Colter Bay.  Walt Farmer, Mel Tucker, John Farmer, Ed Henze, Arlo & Dalia Niederer, Bill Braman, Bob Hoyle.
    Mostly rained out, but about 150 on the deck for sun gazing & about 20 on the bay for a laser tour & brief viewing on the club's 8 in.
July 2007 - For the Murie Ranch and inner city youths from Trenton, NJ.  Walt Farmer, Mel Tucker, Ann Dahl, Mike Maurer.  15-20 attending.
May 2007 - Nighttime star party at JHHS.  Mel Tucker, Arlo Niederer, Derek Niederer, Walt Farmer, Ann Dahl, Mike Maurer.  25 students, teachers, parents.
May 2007 - Jessica Dunlap's classroom at JHHS to talk about star coloration & sunspots/aurora generation.  Walt Farmer, Arlo Niederer.  80 students.
(May 2007 - Night star party scheduled for high school in Driggs, was cancelled due to cloud cover.  Arlo Niederer, Walt Farmer, Dan Smitherman, Mike Maurer were to participate.)
May 2007 - Visit to the Renaissance Faire where we answered questions and set up the club 8" to look at the sun at the high school in Driggs.  We also
    visited the astronomy class (Teacher: Suzanne Bannan) & talked about star magnitudes.  Walt Farmer & Arlo Niederer.  15 students.
Oct. 2006 - Mercury transit of the Sun at the Teton Co. Library: Walt Farmer, Mel Tucker, Loretta Scott, Ed Henze.  3 attendees.
August 2006 - WIMU2006 regional ham radio convention hosted by member DXer Bill Rinker.  Vic Wagner gave a talk partially prepared by
   Walt Farmer, on the sun & what leads to radio propagation & communications outages. Vic,  Mel Tucker & Ed Henze helped after the
   talk with a star party at the Virginian Motel.  25 attendees.
